wisdom from the inbox.

The thing that's totally different between children and adults is that children have the ability to spontaneously use their imagination to forget what's bothering them and be inspired by

every pony,

feather,

or bug

that crosses their path.

i love this sentiment. need to practice it more. and learn from these two teachers of mine.

cheese, cabernet and cupcakes

last sunday i had the privilege to be part of a wedding event at saltwater farm vineyard in stonington that featured guest speaker abby larson of style me pretty and so many talented resources right in our backyard.

there were many highlights to the day, but i must admit there's nothing better than enjoying a smooth cabernet franc [straight from the farm] paired with an amazing library of cheeses and crudité from gourmet galley [yum]—and adding the bonus of a sugarbelle cupcake—well, that is pure delight.

but more importantly, the event raised $1500 for the life is good kids foundation. my good friend, josh chalmers, is president of the board and shared this note of gratitude,

"It is our mission to support and invest in organizations that directly impact children facing unfair challenges, from violence and abuse to poverty, lack of educational opportunities and natural disasters. Sometimes it's as complex as building infrastructure back into a family that has faced a terminal illness, and sometimes it's as simple as reminding a child how to play.

In this chaotic world, perhaps $1500 feels like it's only a small step. But here's a fact--that $1500 can bring critical training to a teacher or childcare associate, to show them how to inspire their students to play, study, dream, and their challenges to redefine themselves. That one teacher can empower hundreds of children, and those children can motivate hundreds of their friends, and those friends can grow up to be teachers and movers and shakers and dreamers themselves. Don't let anyone tell you that $1500 isn't making a huge difference. It's making the world spin more joyfully."

so huge kudos to true&wesson and hana floral design for putting together such an inspiring sunday and bringing more good to life!

trip to sugarbelle

what better way to entertain a five year old than to take a road trip to glastonbury to visit sugarbelle. the store is simply wonderful, their cakes are truly works of art, and well, the cupcakes are outrageous.

so outrageously good that we just had to bring some of these little gems straight home. the red velvet is hands down the best there is. . .be sure to keep your eyes on sugarbelle as they aim to bring the art of cupcakes to a new level. who needs cupcake café or magnolia when we have sugarbelle right here in our connecticut backyard!

thank you jen and kristen for sharing a little bit of your magic with us yesterday.
